Makes 16 Corned Beef Cones
You’ll need:
For the Bread Cones:
500g Plain/APF flour + a little more for kneading
2 Tbsp Sugar
1/2 tsp Salt or as required
2 1/2 tsp or a packet of Yeast
2 Eggs ( Reserve a Tbsp of beaten egg and add 2 Tbsp of water to make the egg wash)
200ml of Whole Milk
60g Butter melted
Chia Seeds
Sesame seeds
How to make Corned Beef 1:50
For the Corned Beef:
1 Large Onion finely chopped
1″ Ginger finely chopped
1 Garlic clove finely chopped
Half a Bell pepper / Capsicum finely chopped
1 Corned Beef tin 340g
1/4 tsp Crushed Black pepper
2-3 Tbsp Tomato Ketchup
Some chopped Coriander
Salt is not required as the corned beef itself is quite salty
Chop all the required ingredients very finely. this is so they can fit into the cone.
Use lukewarm milk (not hot) to activate the yeast. If the yeast doesn’t activate please don’t go any further. You’ll end up ruining the bread.
This dough is quite tacky. When you grease the bowl to transfer the dough lightly grease the top of the dough as well.
While making the paper cones don’t tape or glue them. These are going in your oven. Just hold the cone and the roll the foil around it and secure the edges on the top as shown. No need to grease them.
The cone moulds I have measure 12cms long.
While rolling out the ropes, twist the rope and stretch and roll at the same time. I also stretched the rope very lightly while rolling around the cone mould. When you get to the end secure it by pressing and keep it facing down on your baking tray.
Baking times may vary in different ovens. Mine were done in 8 mins.
Try and remove the moulds from the bread while they’re still warm so they don’t soak in their steam. Be careful as they’ll be very hot at this time.
You can also use half the bread recipe if you prefer. When it comes to the yeast use 1 tsp. You’ll make around 8 bread cones.
We really enjoyed these cones on a hot Summer’s day with drinks to cool off. A new family recipe that has already gone down in my Recipe book. ❤️
