Dr Pepper Pulled Pork Slow Cooker Recipe | Potluck Recipe | Cooking Up Love

Dr Pepper Pulled Pork Slow Cooker Recipe is packed with flavors and gets so tender as it simmers low and slow in a Dr. Pepper sauce… delicious served on toasted buns with a drizzle of bbq sauce, and I like to add a scoop of creamy southern style coleslaw. Our bbq pulled pork recipe is great for summer barbecues and cozy cool weather dinners.

I can’t wait for you to try one of our family’s favorite slow cooker bbq recipes! This Dr Pepper Pulled Pork Slow Cooker recipe makes 8 – 10 HUGE sandwiches, and if you’re having a party use slider buns to feed even more!

Dr Pepper Pulled Pork Slow Cooker Ingredients
Pork Shoulder – about 4 pounds
2 teaspoons kosher salt
2 teaspoons ground pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil (if searing)
1/2 medium sized sweet onion, sliced
4 cups Dr Pepper
2 – 3 cups BBQ sauce (I’m using Sweet Baby Ray’s Brown Sugar and Hickory)
Buns
Red onion slices (optional)
Coleslaw (optional)

BBQ Pulled Pork Slow Cooker Recipe Directions
First, mix the salt and pepper, then sprinkle over pork shoulder you have dried using a paper towel. Rub the seasoning in. To sear the meat, please into a heated skillet coated with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Turn the pork, searing all sides. This step is optional, and you can move directly to placing the pork into the slow cooker if you like. This step is totally optional, the searing will help make a few burnt ends and crusty bits.

Peel and slice a medium sweet onion, and place slices in the bottom of the slow cooker. Place the pork on top of the onions, then pour in 3 cups of Dr. Pepper. Mix 1 cup of Dr Pepper with 1 cup of your favorite BBQ sauce, then pour over the top of the pork. Dr Pepper is what we use in Texas, you can also use root beer and make and amazing root beer pulled pork slow cooker version for your family!

Cover the slow cooker or crockpot and cook on LOW for 7 – 8 hours. If you are home, carefully flip the pork shoulder around the halfway mark, and coat the top with BBQ sauce. Cover and cook for the remaining time.

Test the pork shoulder for doneness using a fork or tongs, you are looking for tender meat that easily pulls away. When the pork is ready, remove from slow cooker or crock pot. Drain and discard the liquid from the slow cooker.

Shred the pork using forks or meat shredders. Mix the shredded pork with 1 – 2 cups of BBQ sauce, depending on your taste and how saucy you like your pulled pork! Return the meat to the slow cooker, and cook for another 30 – 45 minutes on LOW.

To make Dr Pepper Pulled Pork in oven, set your oven to 300*, follow the directions above and cook in a heavy pot or Dutch oven for about 6 hours.

You can also make this bbq pulled pork a few days ahead of time, and reheat it in the slow cooker or microwave right before you’re planning to serve up the sandwiches.

This Slow Cooker Pulled Pork BBQ Recipe makes the best sandwiches! Serve on a soft bun with your favorite toppings. Today, I’m serving these up toasted onion rolls, with slivers of red onion and creamy coleslaw.
Thank you so much for watching and I’ll see you in the next video!
