Appetizers and Snacks

Fun with food: Ladybug cracker appetizers

Back from my YouTube vacation! I am planning on posting videos every Friday and Monday on a regular upload schedule. I have been wanting to have a regular upload schedule for a long time, but was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to do it. I’m going to give it a try to see if I can keep it up!

Ladybugs so cute you won’t want to eat them 🙂
They stick quite nicely to the cream cheese and shouldn’t move if you have to transport them somewhere.
Found this in Taste of Home magazine. In the recipe they provide quantities to make 3 dozen. Here is the recipe they use for the cream cheese. You can use this if you can’t or don’t want to use the commercially made flavoured stuff.

2 oz cream cheese softened
2 tablespoons sour cream
1/2 tsp snipped chives
1/8 tsp minced parsley
1/8 tsp garlic salt
Black paste food colour
36 crackers
18 cherry tomatoes quartered
18 large pitted olives
72 fresh chive pieces (about 1 1/2 inches long)

Mix the first 6 ingredients together until smooth.
Remove one tablespoon of this mixture and tint it black with paste food colour.
(for dots on ladybug).
If you don’t have a pastry bag and tip for the dots, use a small plastic bag with the corner cut off.
Cut cherry tomatoes into four pieces and arrange two of the quarters on the cracker, making a “V” shape with them. Cut the olives into 2 or 3 slices (width-wise) depending on the size and place one of them at the point where the two tomato pieces touch. Add two pieces of snipped chive, by putting them into the center of the olive.
Pipe several dots on the tomatoes for ladybug spots.
