കിണ്ണത്തപ്പം | Kinnathappam Recipe | Easy and soft Kerala snack recipe

“Kinnathappam” is a traditional sweet dish originating from the South Indian state of Kerala. Its name translates to ‘plate cake’ in English, referencing its presentation in plate-like molds. The dish is a type of steamed rice cake, known for its delicate texture and mild sweet flavour. The main ingredients for Kinnathappam Recipe include rice flour (or soaked and ground rice), thick coconut milk, sugar, and water. Spices like cardamom and sometimes a pinch of salt are also added to enhance the flavour. Some variations may include additions such as jaggery in place of sugar, lending a rich, caramel-like sweetness, or eggs, for a more custard-like texture. The mixture of these ingredients is stirred until it attains a smooth, batter-like consistency. The batter is then poured into a plate or a pan and then steamed until it sets and acquires a gelatinous texture. Serving Kinnathappam is usually quite simple. It can be cut into pieces, typically squares or diamonds, and is then ready to be enjoyed.
